What is a thali ?

Thali, the Indian word for tray, is an Indian meal with contents varying from one regional cuisine to another.

A thali is a selection of different Indian foods, served in small pots called katoriís. The katoriís are filled with various meat, vegetable and dhal dishes, the number of katoriís offered can vary from between three and six and will normally be accompanied by rice, Indian breads and chutney etc.

This will vary from restaurant to restaurant. (See Restaurante Brujeria menu) Alternatively, a vegetarian or fish thali could also be offered.

Originally, the thali was made of gold or silver and was served to the noble and elite at banquets and special occasions, nowadays you will find it served in restaurants and on special occasions in the home.

At Christmas time for example, neighbours in some areas exchange thaliís.

If you have never tried the thali , do so now , it is a real experience.
